A NEW HIGH-QUALITY EMPLOYMENT PARK FOR NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE
Following the granting of planning approval in Autumn 2019, IM Properties has started construction of Mercia Park, a major new high-quality employment park in north west Leicestershire adjacent to junction 11 of the M42.
As we progress work on site we want to ensure that our neighbours, the local community and wider stakeholders are kept informed about how the project is being delivered, the key timings and other activity to ensure we deliver a successful new asset.
A HOME FOR LEADING BUSINESSES
Mercia Park will become home to leading international businesses Jaguar Land Rover and DSV Group, which are the two principle operators that will occupy the majority of the new 238-acre employment park.
The site will support up to 3,400 jobs when fully occupied and generate around 170 construction jobs per year during the build phase, helping to drive economic growth in north west Leicestershire and the surrounding area.
The park’s excellent access to the strategic motorway network, providing connections across the Midlands and to all other parts of the country, means it has the transport links needed to make the proposed development a success. In addition, our comprehensive transport strategy will minimise impact on local roads and improve accessibility to the site.
With high standards of building design, Mercia Park will include measures to reduce visual impact, and provide landscaping, amenities and first-class management to deliver growth in the most considerate way.
PROJECT TIMINGS
IM Properties’ appointed contractor, Winvic Construction, started work on site in May 2020. The first phase of work involving earthwork excavation, ground remodelling, drainage, and preparing the development’s main building plots has now been completed.
The current phase of the project has seen the park’s first buildings begin to be constructed, as well as work to deliver site infrastructure including new internal roads and utilities. Alongside this we’ve been carrying out a programme of highways works which you can read more about here.
The health and wellbeing of our people and the communities near our sites is of paramount importance and we are implementing and regularly reviewing appropriate safety measures in line with Government and Public Health England guidance on Covid-19.
You can read more about the construction programme and the recent progress we’ve been making in our latest community newsletter here.
Mercia Park Community Fund
The Mercia Park Community Fund is open to applications for funding from charitable or voluntary groups working in proximity of the site. Grants of between £2,000 and £5,000 will be available for applications that particularly focus on strengthening local communities and improving the natural environment.
The Community Fund is being independently administered by the Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation and almost £130,000 has already been awarded to local projects and groups. To find out more about the grants and further details of how to apply, please visit their website here.
