Mercia Park’s programme of highways work consists of three main elements:
- construction of a new site entrance (for cars and public transport only)
- building a new access roundabout on the B5493
- delivering improvements to the gyratory system at Junction 11, M42
We appreciate any work in the public highway can be frustrating and would like to apologise for any disruption – we will be getting through the work as quickly and as safely as possible.
New site entrance and access roundabout
Construction of a new site entrance and a separate new roundabout on the B5493, which will be the main access for the development once it is operational, took place earlier this year.
Work within the carriageway to connect the roundabout to the existing road has now been completed and no further daytime closures on the B5493 will be required.
We would like to apologise for the inconvenience and are very grateful to the local community for their patience while this work was carried out. This has meant the team was able to complete the works in one go and not prolong the disruption over a period of time.
J11, M42 GYRATORY – TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES MAY/JUNE 2021
Our appointed contractor, Winvic Construction, is separately carrying out a programme of overnight improvement works to the gyratory system at Junction 11, M42.
These works include the partial signalisation, localised widening, and enhancements for pedestrian and cycle access at the J11 roundabout.
To carry out this work safely, some full night-time closures of the slip roads will be required from 16 May 2021 for a period of up to four weeks. These will be taking place in two phases:
- Eastern section, 16-28 May – closure of the A42/M42 southbound slip roads; Tamworth Road junction; A444 south junction
- Western section, 1-13 June – closure of the A42/M42 northbound slip roads, B5493 junction; A444 north junction
All of these works will take place at night only (between the hours of 21:00 and 6:00) and diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Please note some diversions on local roads may be in place from 20:00.
All of the roads affected will be re-opened every day at the end of each shift.
Details about the work and the necessary temporary diversion routes have been agreed with Highways England and local authority highways teams. Local residents, parishes and other relevant stakeholders are being contacted ahead of work starting.
